Composite decking comes in many colours and shades. This article will help you to decide what the best colour is for your composite decking project. As there are so many colour options available, it can be difficult to choose the best colour for you and your project. There are 4 main factors to consider when choosing the best colour for you. These are as follows:

  • Surrounding Colours
  • Personal Preference
  • Surrounding Architecture (Housing etc)
  • Whats Currently Trending

We’d strongly recommend ordering decking samples, so that you can confirm your decision regarding colour and finish with the actual product in hand. Online images represent as close as possible the colour of the actual product, however it can vary depending on the lighting and the screen the image is viewed on.

At OVAEDA, we have a large range of composite decking in many different colours and finishes, and we would always recommend ordering samples so that you can make the correct decision. After all, our samples are free of charge and arrive next day! Why not order yours here.

Deciding Factor #1 – Surrounding Colours

Firstly, consider where your decking area is going to be in your garden – are there walls near? large objects? what is adjacent to the area? Ensure you know what is going to be visible from the area and take note of the colours of all these objects. If any object is going to be close to the decking, ensure the two colours don’t clash. If you are wanting to match colours with surrounding objects, compare your samples to these, and match as close as possible. You may alternatively want to create a contrast, and if so, consider choosing a colour that is similar, but in a different tone – lighter or darker than surrounding features.

If the majority of colours are warmer in the surrounding area, such as browns, reds and greens, we would suggest going with warmer tones of decking, and avoiding cooler shades such as greys and blacks. This is more likely to be the case in the countryside, and in smaller villages and towns.

But if there are more monotone colours in the area (blacks, whites, and greys) we would suggest looking at cooler colour tones, as these will make for a good match, and will ensure that your decking area blends in with the surrounding area.

Deciding Factor #2 – Personal Preference

Considering your personal preference when choosing the best colour for your composite decking area is also a very important factor! If there are any colours or tones that you just don’t like, its probably not worth considering them for a decking colour either!

You may notice that grey and black composite decking is currently very popular, however it is important to consider whether it is the right choice for you, or whether it is what you are choosing, just because it is what is trending.

Have a think about colours that you like that you use throughout your house and see if you can match these in with your composite decking area, bringing the inside out and seamlessly transferring your style outside!

Deciding Factor #3 – Surrounding Architecture

Taking note of the architecture and buildings surrounding the area is very important when deciding the best colour for your composite decking.

Is the surrounding architecture contemporary and modern? If so, your decking area will benefit from cooler, more modern shades such as black and grey. These colours are extremely popular currently and are available in many different shades, to match, or contrast with surrounding objects and features.

Alternatively, if the surrounding buildings and architecture are more traditional, are older buildings, or country cottages, they will benefit from more natural colours and tones that are a shade of brown.

Deciding Factor #4 – What’s Currently Trending

When researching composite decking, you are more than likely to see different trends, especially with the colours that are being used. Currently, greys and blacks are proving extremely popular, as people are looking for a more modern and contemporary finish. However, this is not for everyone! it is important to consider what you like yourself, instead of just keeping up with trends. Look into the trends yourself, as these are constantly evolving too.

Choosing trending colours could be the best option for you if you like the colours, and because it’ll also mean that your garden area is up-to-date.

Once you have considered each of these factors, and thought about the best colours for you, you may want to see large samples or even full decking boards so that you can get a good understanding as to what your composite decking area is going to look like when it is finished. At OVAEDA, we offer 60cm samples, and if you’d like to see an even larger sample, you can take it a step further and order a full board, and we won’t charge extortionate amounts for carriage! This will help you to further see the tone, colour variation, and finish of the board in more detail. These are all available here.

Our Sales team is always readily available to help you with making this decision too, and are easily contactable either by phoning 020 8159 2999 or by emailing sales@ovaeda.com.
