Case Study: Washed Slate | Dark Grey | Balcony Project

A newly constructed home extension situated just outside of Sheffield, which was once previously old stables believe it or not, has been beautifully transformed by our friends over at Codus Construction. We were approached by Codus as the client was impressed by our wide range of composite decking & porcelain paving options on our website. They began by ordering samples of both our Luxxe™ Composite Decking and 3 types of Porcelain Paving from our Stone Effect range. The client had asked for a dark grey tile which would fit well in with the exterior stone walls of the house. After deciding between Caithness Stone | Black, Bilston | Black and Westerton | Dark Grey they chose the latter.

This project was also slightly different to what we typically deal with as the balcony had a rounded edge which required a system that could accommodate to this easily. The best decision that the client made was to use our Tectonic® Aluminium Paving Subframe system and Tectonic® adjustable pedestals so that the balcony would remain in prime condition for many many years with effective drainage.

Our Solution

We knew that the client asked be able to walk straight out on the paving area with only a slight step down from the living room doors, so by using the Tectonic® Aluminium Paving Subframe system, they could do exactly that. With the assistance of the adjustable pedestals and adjustable cradles, the height of the area could be precisely adjusted to their specified heigh. The reason that we had recommended using the Tectonic system over simply using paving pedestals, was for the simple fact that using pedestals would not have been able to accommodate the curve properly and get up close enough to the edges of the balcony the same way that the Tectonic® paving support system was able to. The drainage with the system is also second to none and the 4mm spacer tabs give the paving area a clean and uniform finish.

Overall the project was a resounding success and completed within a few days due to the speediness that the Tectonic system provides.
