Why Do Some Companies Charge So Much Carriage? With Low Initial Costs?

Here at OVAEDA, we offer free delivery nationwide on ANY ORDER over £50, no catches or clauses. However, we wanted to point out that many companies, especially in the outdoor garden market can charge A LOT for delivery in an effort to get their initial pricing lower.

This may seem an attractive price in the first place, but then when it comes to checkout, you can get a nasty surprise.


At OVAEDA, we like to be honest, giving our customers the actual price that they will pay when they look at the product, not once they get to checkout having to pay loads of unavoidable cost increases.

There is a reason why some companies charge a lot for delivery, and this is usually down to the length of the products being sent. Most deck boards and joists are 3m or longer (like ours), which means they are expensive to ship. The reason they are expensive, is they take up three or four times the amount of space a single pallet does.

I hope this helps you to understand why some companies charge what they do for delivery, and that we want to help you wherever possible.

Order under £50? We will have to charge you £9.95 – unless its samples! We send them for free.


Our Terms and Lead times are as below:

Lead Time

Our standard lead time is between 1-5 working days, subject to the products being in stock. If you are really urgent for your goods, please give us a call and we will do all we can to meet your required date.

Delivery Terms

  • Please ensure someone will be available to receive and sign for your goods - our drivers will not deliver the goods if there is no one available to receive them.
  • Our delivery service is to the property kerbside only and the pallets will have to be unloaded by hand.
  • For goods under 2m our drivers will unload the goods via a tail lift.
  • For goods over 2m in length, please ensure someone is available to assist with unloading the goods as these will not fit onto the tail lift.
  • Once your order has been received and processed, our despatch team will confirm a delivery date.
  • If our delivery drivers attempt to deliver on the specific date agreed and there is no one available to receive the goods, an additional delivery charge will apply for redelivery.
  • If you are not happy with the condition of the goods on delivery, you must inform the delivery driver, sign for the goods indicating the issue and take images of the products that you are not satisfied with. This will enable our operations team to review and respond to the issue.
